Smithsonian are pushing the technical envelope for broadcast television, broadcasting in 5.1 surround sound and UltraHigh Definition. Victoria Page, the Series Producer, and Nik Porter, the Series DOP came to talk to us during pre-production about cameras formats and looks.

The series shot on Sony Venice and the creative brief for the colour grade was to create a warmth and richness of colour, reflective of the tone of the programme and representing the decadence and beauty of the locations. Objects and decorations within the homes were to be represented accurately and showing off their detail and beauty.

The first episode was completed at Roundtable’s facilities however during finishing post for the second episode we chose to enact remote working, as a precaution, prior to the government’s announcements.

This meant that we needed to do the online edit and 5.1 sound mix for one of the episodes as well as do all of the Smithsonian deliverables for both.

As we had already posted the prior series we discussed with the client and decided together that it was best to move to a review and amends system of remote working. This meant that we would work alone and send timecoded viewing copies to Victoria who would, in turn, deliver back detailed notes for our creatives to implement.

The production and post team worked together closer than ever to ensure delivery on time without compromising any of the high standards that had been set.

The team at Nutshell TV have created a show that is fun, entertaining and informative and the results show in the rave reviews that it has been receiving.
